Beginning my career in a Title I school, I know my students face challenges that can take a major toll on their daily lives. The school I work at aims to provide a safe space for students, making their days welcoming and comfortable. By doing so, each of my fellow colleagues hopes to make students excited to return the next day. My students are curious, young thinkers, who need opportunities for engaging, hands-on learning. They are bursting with questions (What? Why?! HOW?) that can sometimes only be answered through personal experience. Their transformations from confusion to sudden and illuminating understanding is what makes working with them so very rewarding. They deserve the opportunities that can sometimes be difficult for us teachers to provide--due to cost, time, and standards.
