My fifth grade class will be using books in book clubs to study character, plot, figurative language, theme, main idea, and sign posts. The books I am asking for are of several different levels to reach each students' needs. One size does not fit all, when it comes to books. We will be reading these books in book clubs that students will have the chance to take leadership of their learning in as well as in guided reading groups where the teachers will reading and directing them in a specific direction. Books help students to explore worlds outside of their own while learning complex reading strategies. We would be grateful for any opportunity to grow as readers and world class citizens from these books. Books such as Wonder will teach us perseverance and acceptance. The book The Watson's go to Birmingham will help students learn our history while discovering strong figurative language. All of the books we are asking for will serve as a purpose for building our reading skills and our connection to the world around us.
