For the past 3 years as a 1st grade teacher, I have been incorporating technology more into the classroom. The improvement I have seen in my students both behaviorally (social and emotional) and academically, is the reason for this project. We use computers in the classroom in several ways. The first being reading. Our school has purchased a computer two reading programs (Reading A to Z and Starfall.) The students also use ABC mouse for literacy and math. We are an IB school (International Baccalaureate) which infuses science and social studies into the curriculum. This allows students to perform their own research projects throughout the curriculum. Much of this research is completed on the computer. During Daily 5, students rotate computers because there are only 4 computers and half of the time they do not work. Some students have to wait days before going on the computer. Students beg to use the computers! It makes learning fun for them. Let's face it, in this technology world, my kiddos are going to need computer skills. Many of our kiddos come from poverty stricken homes. They do not have a computer at home. They look forward to coming to school. It is a safe place for them. Please consider expanding our learning resources for our inclusive classroom. We greatly appreciate any donation!
