Our school is diverse in every way. It is a culture that values literacy first and foremost. We are a model school for many in NYC. We foster an environment of respect, social-emotional and academic growth and on-going support for families and students. Students are hungry for great books and interesting writing projects. They have diverse learning needs that in our ICT (integrated co-teaching) classroom we try to support and empower them with tools for success in reading and writing. We focus on students' strengths, and in one-on-one conferences and small group instruction, we use these strengths to help teach other students or push them to try new and different approaches to reading and writing. Our 6th grade students have a rich day with five academic classes, a studio class and two advisory periods a week to support their needs transitioning to a middle school setting as this first year in a 6-12 school can be overwhelming.
