I teach at a Title 1 school 75% free lunch; 55% Black; 27% Hisp.; 14% White. My kindergarten children come to school each year with "vim and vigor" excited about learning. I am charged with keeping that momentum going while building this very important foundation for their educational future.
I have found that it is also important to teach them the importance of having good character and giving them the tools to help them develop the character traits that will help them to make good decisions and see themselves as leaders.
Teaching the "whole child" is very important to me.
I always express to them that being "ordinary" is boring when you can be "extraordinary".
