We are an urban school located in Washington DC. My students are 97% African American and 99% are on free or reduced lunch. They are creative, hardworking, and curious. It is this curiosity that we want to fuel. They live in the same city with many individuals working on the Hill, but know very little about what they do. We want to change that. We need our students to become active citizens. We work hard to be a school that Washingtonians are proud of. Our students work to develop reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in every class. They are exposed to college rigor in IB, AP, and regular classes. We plan to partner with more community members to increase our student's involvement in the community. We also will use these partnerships to create curriculum-based service learning projects. This allows students to receive their community service hours in a meaningful way. Our students are dedicated to get the most out of their education.
