We are a PK-8 grade school nestled in the mountains of east Tennessee. This is a very poor community where work is sparse and life is tough. My students come from very low socioeconomic backgrounds. Most families struggle to provide their children basic daily necessities. However, these students have a love for learning and a very strong work ethic. They want to succeed in life and it is my responsibility to give them all the tools that I can to help them achieve their goals. I spend all of my budget providing them with basic necessities like paper, pencil, crayons, and markers. I would love to provide a nice carpet for them. It would be such a great help in creating a warm, inviting classroom environment for children who rarely have the nice things in life.
