My grandmother once explained to me that teaching is not a job, it is a calling. Because you are fitted to your work, you are happy. Because you are happy in your work, you spread the joy and wonder of learning. And when children learn to love learning, we create a more beautiful world.
I am a teacher and school librarian who has found her niche, in the warm and lively community of Federal Hill Preparatory School in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. I began my career in a rigorous and progressive private school and then devoted 13 years to the development of a non-profit alternative school for at-risk middle and high school students. I believe in the power of a child-centered approach, being responsive to the interests and needs of my students, and building excitement through research, investigation, and inquiry.
