I teach fourth grade in a Title 1 school. In our school, we have a very diverse set of students. They come from different backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses.
My students all have one thing in common though. They all want to learn and want to be part of a classroom community.
It is apparent in their actions and words, that they have not been exposed to the technology required to succeed in our society. They do not have the opportunities of more affluent students.
This also pertains to their exposure to books. They do not have libraries in their homes, nor do their parents have the time to take them to the city/county library as much as they should. They spend the majority of their time in my classroom, so it would give them ample opportunity to be immersed in literacy and technology.
