Our Title 1 school has changed to become a new STEAM Academy. The students are comprised of 83% second language learners, with greater than 80% free and reduced lunches. Meeting everyday needs of their children is difficult for our parents so they cannot provide much material support to our classroom. This is why I am seeking out support from great organizations like yours.
My children are curious and eager to learn. They require much scaffolding of language to understand concepts. It is always best to provide hands-on materials to support the difficult curricula. We would love to have Lincoln logs, tinker toy type materials and manipulatives that we can build and take apart. Oh, how they love to be able to express themselves by using their creativity in a variety of modalities! When they are able to produce or create something on their own, they feel proud which increases confidence in their performance.
