I have about 95 amazing fourth and fifth grade students who make up three different classes or "rotations" each and every day for Writer's Workshop. They are in a small school and they make up the entire 4th and 5th grade population. During the day, they are read aloud inspirational books that have rich language, interesting information, twisty plots, surprise endings and other elements that make reading exciting and enjoyable. They also have an opportunity to read their own books that have the same elements as listed above. With well planned mini-lessons, group sharing and meaningful conversations on an organized carpet, they then get to try to create and write their own narrative, fictional narrative, explanatory, informative, responses to literature, persuasive, and opinion writings. They are unbelievable writers and I couldn't be more proud of their talents.
