My students are in the first grade. Most of the children in my classroom receive free or reduced lunch. These children do not have shelves of books at home to choose from when deciding what to read. These energetic students want to read. They enjoy picking out books at their specific level from the classroom library. The students treasure the books and they take their time picking just the perfect one to read. Each student, along with the entire school, sets a goal each year towards a certain number of Accelerated Reading points. This drives the students to read more. We know the more practice they have reading the better readers they will become.
