My 4th graders are from a very diverse population in Indiana (55% Hispanic, 33% African American, and 8% White). They come from challenging backgrounds, 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch programs, but our school environment is accepting and welcoming to all. We strive to be respectful of each others' beliefs and backgrounds. We are a Spanish Immersion program which means our students receive half of their day in English and half of their day in Spanish. It is only one of few of its kind in Indiana. Our students are eager to learn, despite the challenges they face, and just need the proper guidance.
