With the rise of technology in all aspects of life and the increased rigor of the standards young children are expected to learn in the classroom, they are struggling to sit still for hours on end. Studies show that giving students a way to move around while they work actually helps students focus better. My kindergarteners are active and energetic learners. Research shows that physical activity leads to increased educational performance and improved behavior.
Rather than fight the energy and restlessness that is prevalent in the classroom, I want to give students a way to move while they work. I want to give my students a way to be active while they sit in school and in turn increase their focus. This flexible seating has been proven successful in select schools around the country and I want to bring it to Inglewood. I want students to be able to move around on wobble stools, yoga balls, and cushions on the floor while they work.
And most importantly I want to give them choice. I want them to be able to choose from different seats and tables that will help them to do their best work and learn in the way that is best for their individual learning style. I strongly believe that my students need routine and structure and yet they also need to have some control of their learning and an outlet for the "wiggles"!
I want the students that enter my Kindergarten classroom to walk in and feel excitement for the learning process when they see the classroom setting. The seating provided by your donations will give my students an outlet for their energy. It will provide focus and choice daily. Thank you for your support that makes all this possible!
