According to best practices and author Donalyn Miller, students are more apt to read when reading is encouraged, made a priority, engaging, non-threatening and allowed to read what they wish. Students read more when they are allowed to read without fear of failure through assessment. A class library would allow for a variety of titles and student choice. Although students will not be tested on the book, students would still be expected to participate in book tastings where they preview and dialogue about the book they choose as well as participate in in-depth literary discussions via literature circles. A class library would allow students to promote reading with their peers.
