I teach 6th grade ELA/ESOL in Georgia. I teach students who are refugees from all over the world. Last year I had 13 native languages spoken in my classroom. The students that enter my room have faced challenges and struggles all of their lives. Many have endured famine, war, and/or conflicts within their government. I am amazed at their spirit and determination to do well in school so they can create a better life for themselves. My students don't take their education for granted; they know it's a gift. Every time I walk in my room, I am truly inspired by them, and I want to be the best educator possible because their will and drive to succeed is so strong. Without a doubt, these students have helped restore my faith in humanity. I have learned so much about myself and the power of the human spirit from students who are so young and have overcome so much at such an early age. I know that I am their "teacher," but each day they are really the ones teaching me.
