Throughout the year, my students are developing their relationship with math and foster a palpable sense of curiosity. Many of my students enter the grade level lacking foundational skills needed to tackle first grade concepts and have to work diligently to close the gap. Maintaining a positive feeling for math is critical so they can learn with confidence!
Our class is rich with diversity, and my students work hard to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment. Limited home support means quality experiences at school are crucial. My students have a range of academic and behavioral skills, several receive Special Education services, and over 50% are English Language Learners. For us, math is a universal language in which we connect and encourage each other to persevere.
My students have a spirit and enthusiasm for math that is inspiring. I want to harness this excitement to ensure each student feels confident with their skill level and enjoys the wonders of math!
