I teach 6th grade students in a small community. While I work with great kids and an awesome staff, we are really trying to improve our literacy department; particularly, we are focused on improving the scores of our 6th and 7th graders. In fact, we have just hired a new reading interventionist, and two new literature and language arts teachers. Because of all these hires, we are really limited on funding. This makes it hard for us to get books into our classroom libraries. Our 6th graders don't hate to read, but our classroom libraries lack the current literature trends that have been extremely popular. They've enjoyed reading in years past, but a lack of options has really put a damper on their enjoyment this last year. By supplying some of our rooms with these books, our students should have a great start to a much improved classroom library that will hopefully put some of that enjoyment back into our classrooms.
