My students are from working-class families who primarily work in farming and agriculture. Our school district is consolidated, so many students have long bus rides at the beginning and end of every school day. With graduating classes less than 15, our student body is extremely active, with the large majority of students participating in at least one extra-curricular activity. Our staff is small, but values teamwork and cooperation. I am the only English teacher in the high school, as all of the other teachers are the singular teacher of their subject, so we see our students from freshman year to graduation. Most will pursue education after high school graduation, whether it be at a 4-year, 2-year or technical college. This town values community and hard work, and this value is reflected in the average student at my school.
