My students are eager, enthusiastic learners. The majority of them are English Language Learners and enter the classroom with limited language, and we work together to build their vocabulary, improve their grammar, and increase their confidence to participate in conversations. They are from a variety of countries and speak a wide range of languages. Many of them live in poverty, but they do not let that get in the way of their love for learning. They come from homes where their parents do not often read to them, and this is part of the reason they love school; they are excited to read and listen to new books. They light up while discussing new ideas and topics, eager to share what they have discovered each day. All the students in my class come to school with varied backgrounds but they quickly come together as a community to help each other become kind, welcoming, hard-working, respectful citizens, like a family.
