I am a 4th grade math and science teacher in the Chicago area. This upcoming school year I am privileged to have the opportunity to work in a first year turnaround, meaning the school is starting from scratch with basically nothing. Many of my students come from a high crime, high poverty rate neighborhood, but will not allow that to get in the way of their road to success. In order to help my students meet their collegiate leveled goals, I need to integrate content specific text and manipulatives that will help my students grasp real life connections. But also a deeper understanding of more rigorous content that motivates college-ready thinking skill within the area of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I'm hoping this will be the year that my students have the opportunity to be exposed to what excellence in the world of math and science looks like and how it can be applied in the future with your assistance.
