Having this set of Kindles will increase student engagement in the classroom by providing an alternative to traditional textbooks. One way they will be used is during classroom read-alouds. By simply downloading an app onto the devices, I will be able to display the text using a projector. This enables whole class reading, and brings a visual element to classroom read-alouds. Another way that the Kindles will be used is through centers. As with our current technology situation at school, students are only able to use computers once a week. By having Kindle tablets available daily, students are able to frequently practice literacy skills, with the use of technology (skills that will be applied during statewide testing). Not only will these Kindles increase student engagement, but also will encourage all students to value reading! Especially those who are far below, as it creates a sense of anonymity. No one will know who's reading what, and all students will feel comfortable reading in front of their peers. The use of Kindle's in the classroom, will enhance my classroom culture. As technology has become the norm for society, it is only right for my students to have daily access to tablets. The versatility that tablets offer allows for students to become avid readers, as well as researchers, with tons of information at their fingertips.
