My students are low-income 3, 4 and 5 years old students. They are nervous about school because this is their first time in a school setting and away from their parents. They are anxious to learn, yet struggling with separation anxiety. Many of my students are excited about the environment. They want to look and books, use different technology, explore the nine areas in the pre-k classroom but do not quite know how. For many of my students, this will be their first time having a structured day, listening to stories and being able to make choices about learning. My school is a turn-around school and has been for five years. The goal is to develop students of excellence. We strive to provide students with positive learning experiences so that they can develop a love for education and know that school is not only a place where they can learn but also a place where they will be safe. It is important for young children to feel comfortable and safe before they can learn.
