My students come from a low socio-economic suburban area in which most of them live in low income housing with little space to 'call their own'. The school's population is approximately 2500 students with a wide variety of ethnic groups. The students are determined to become leaders within the community and will succeed once given the opportunity. My students are young leaders who strive to be active in their community by making it a better place for their family. My students want to make their lives healthier by having their own greenhouse to maintain and bring the produced crops back to their families. Our school has an International Baccalaureate Program thus encouraging our students to be engaged with an inquiring mind and hands on learning. The student to teacher ratio is 37:1.More than half of our student body is on a 'free' or 'reduced' lunch plan and the average household's income is roughly $47,000. The greenhouse provides our students an alternative way to spend their time.
