My class at Newell Elementary, a Title 1 school located in East Charlotte is comprised of 28 students, or as I refer to them, my CEOs!
Over half of my students are classified as English Language Learners (ELLs). These students hail from over 8 different countries around the world. Despite the different languages and cultures that intersect in my classroom, we are all united in our class goal: each student will grow 1.5 grade levels in literacy. Obviously, reaching this goal is especially challenging for non-native speakers who must learn English while simultaneously mastering content objectives.
