Read alouds are vital to success in our classroom. Everyday for thirty minutes my students are transported to another world through novels that I read aloud to them. "By The Great Horn Spoon", is an excellent story to read along with while learning about the California Gold Rush. Students become invested in the journey of Praiseworthy and Jack while they sail to California. The real story begins when they make it to California and make new friends!
These books will be used every year to engage learners about the California Gold Rush!
I usually get class sets through Scholastic or at the flee market. This book is really hard to find at a cheap price. I always save this book until the end of the year because it is the best! The kids do not want to leave when the bell rings because they want to know what happens next. Books like these help students become life long readers!
