In our classroom, we are a community. A community that embraces differences, of opinions, differences in culture and we understand that learning neither begins within a classroom, nor does it end there! Help my students embrace an education of global learning where they are able to make connections within the classroom, as we continue to inch towards obtaining our PYP status. Through the use of a cultural competent curriculum and technology, my students are able to read, write and take virtual field trips to places some of them may never have the opportunity to visit. I am on a mission to teach my students to make connections and ask questions. I plan on doing this by creating a community within my classroom. From a classroom corner store that will serve fresh popcorn and/or snow cones on select days of the month to those students wishing to spend their class currency (not real money, but currency earned through hard work and stellar behavior), to an edible corner garden with herbs such as rosemary, basil, and cilantro (my students will grow from seeds and be able to eventually eat), students will interact, engage and learn finance, gardening and independence. With a "show what you know!" game corner, students engage in competitive learning games with the use of game buzzers, dry erase marker and large and small dry erase boards, and technology! And organization is key, so through the use clear carts and crates, students can store materials. Help me help them make these connections that will be life changing!
