Independent choice is crucial in Reader's workshop. Teaching in a low-income school, student choice is difficult due to the lack of books. I have chosen books that represent different students in my classroom.
With these books, you'll not only help my students have a choice, but you will also help my students see themselves in the books that they are reading. These books will be used for book clubs, where 4-5 students will read the same book and have many discussions about the books. These discussions will help my students be able to translate into their real life. It is so important that students know how to communicate with other people.
