I am the Art teacher at Pleasantdale Elementary School in Doraville, Georgia. We are a Title I school. Over 87% of our students receive free or reduced meals. Despite struggles and challenges, our students come to school eager to learn and accomplish everything they can. Helping our students to express themselves creatively is vital to growing their self-esteem. It encourages them to think outside the box as they explore a variety of mediums. Art also enables our students to make connections across the curriculum and see the beauty that surrounds us in our everyday lives. There is no budget provided for art supplies in our school. If I feel my students will benefit from having something, I buy it out of pocket. Unfortunately my pockets have their limits. I would love to give my students everything they need to create art that is meaningful. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
