My students are African-American and come from a very poor area. Most of them come from families that are broken and struggling financially. I know a lot of them have seen more than a first grader should see. Despite some of their family problems at home, when they walk through my door, they put all of that aside and are ready to learn! Our school tries its hardest to provide teachers with as many "necessary" resources as possible, but the truth is, there is not enough money to go around. We get the bare minimum. As a teacher, you can never have enough resources. Giving my students a listening center and books would provide them with ample reading exposure!
