My students are African-American and Mexican-American and reside in a predominantly low-income, immigrant community in Chicago. 99% of my students are eligible for free lunch and 49% of them are English Language Learners. My school is an amazing place that does amazing things. We create a safe, positive environment that enables our students to succeed. We believe that all students will learn through rigorous and differentiated instruction. In the spring of 2014 the Illinois State Board of Education awarded our school an Academic Improvement Award. We were one of only 125 schools in the entire state to receive the award for achieving substantial gains over a one- to two-year period.
