My 24 students all live in a low socio-economic area, surrounded by some of the most prestigious tech companies in the world. As Kindergartners they are innocent, precocious, loving, and excited to learn about the world around them. They are mostly native Spanish speakers, and 90% of them are on free or reduced lunch. My school is a dual immersion magnet school, where the identity of these students is not only respected and valued, it is celebrated. The community and school feel like one large family.
