My students are living in a low socioeconomic area and my school's budget does not allow much money for a classroom library. Most of my first graders come to me with a very limited vocabulary. Throughout the year, we work on character building as well as academics. Their growth is truly remarkable. I have the best job in the world-- I love my students. My students have great attitudes and a thirst for knowledge. They are hard workers and love to make me smile too. Each year I try to encourage reading at home and I often send my books home with them. The new Common Core standards rely on the students' abilities to communicate with each other.
