My fifth-grade students are considered "at-risk" students because of where they live and because of their backgrounds. However, you would never know that due to how they carry themselves. They are motivators and risk takers. Many of them come from single, low-income homes, but they would never use this as an excuse. Our school was built in 1915; however, nine years ago, a new wing was added to our school, which has improved our community pride. Our school works closely with our hardworking parents and grandparents. Our students, like many others, love technology. However, due to our school budget cuts, we are very limited in our technology. Many times, I bring my own personal computer, iPad, and laptop to school for classroom use. Furthermore, many of my students lack technology at home due to family incomes.
