My project goal is to provide materials for a peer tutoring program that is available to our entire school population. Our peer tutoring program would give students a place to meet with their peers to get additional help on assignments and better understand curriculum. This would be an open and judgment free zone where all students would feel welcome, and the focus would be on academics and building stronger peer relationships within our school.
Benefits of providing these materials for a peer tutoring program include improved communication skills, improved organization, improved learning, and improved self-esteem and self-confidence. In addition, "Practical Tools for Peer Tutors" would provide positive role models and emotional support along with opportunities for enrichment. Our peer tutoring program would aim to break down social barriers and create new friendships.
This project would greatly fit the academic and social needs of our campus. Often high school students do not feel comfortable seeking additional help from teachers. This project would provide training and resources to a cadre of peer tutors so that they could be available to help their fellow students in a competent and meaningful way. The atmosphere would be non-threatening and all-inclusive.
