As a first year teacher, I am excited to get in the classroom to get to know my students. From what returning staff have told me, these students have great potential to achieve academically and behaviorally. I believe with structures in place that provide for their safety and encourage active learning, their test scores and academic engagement will soar while the behavioral outbursts that have previously characterized this class will reduce. All of my students have disabilities, many come from low-income backgrounds, and many are English Language Learners. These precipitating factors make school more difficult for them. It is my belief that it's the job of teachers to mitigate the affect of these factors. Students need to know that they are cared about, that their academic and social needs will be met, and that they are capable of high achievement. Instruction must be fun and meet the needs of each individual. I know that we will enjoy many laughs and much learning together this year.
