We have a wonderful family system at our school. It not only includes the families, but also the staff. Our population is over 60% EL and socioeconomically disadvantaged. We have parents who work hard to make two ends meet, or language learners whose parents would love to help but don't have the time or don't know how to help. Whited is blessed to have a wonderful group of kids who are kind, excited, and eager to learn but don't don't always have the materials. We often have the materials for the basics (colored paper, glue, markers, etc) but don't have the money to enrich their experiences. I love my job, but it is hard to see children getting less than they could because of lack of money. If I could foster a love of learning, my children would blossom and attempt to do so on their own.
