My students come from an extremely transient area. For some, the only consistency they have is at school. They all have special needs that make it difficult for them to interact with their world. Some students are completely non-verbal and require picture communication books.
My job is to help them learn to use functional communication in any way possible to express their wants and needs and to give the students the opportunity to interact with others. I work closely with the two special education preschool classrooms to increase language and sound productions. Our students require concrete items in order to help make the concepts come alive! Our goal is for our students to be functional in their environment. Many of our students just need love, support, and someone to push them to the next level. They love moving around, getting messy, and playing on the floor! It is our job to make sure that they continue to grow!
