All my students are from a High- Need Community. Many of the parents are not very involved in their children's education for various reasons. Some of the parents are not able to help because of the language barrier, so school is their only option for learning their second language {English}. This is an ESL class so they struggle with reading and are very self-conscious. Therefore the time on the rug means a lot to them throughout the day. Many times it their retreat when they find themselves struggling. Usually it is my cue that they need a break or more clarification on something. The school struggles with funding and is only able to provide for the basic needs of these students.
