We have found that by giving students choice in the classroom can be very powerful. One way that we choose to give our students choice is through alternative seating. We let our diverse students choose from diverse seating in order to sit wherever they work the best. This might be on the floor, in a chair, on a stool, in a wiggle seat, or at a desk. Unfortunately we do not have very many seating choices in our room currently.
Whether they need to wiggle, lay down, or spread out, we hope to be able to provide whatever types of seating is best for our students. We will do that by having seating that might not be found in a traditional classroom. We want our students to have access to bean bags, pillows, stools, wiggle stools, benches, and more so that they can feel successful in our classroom.
