My name is Ms. Mullin and I currently teach algebra and coach girls soccer. The students I teach are the lowest performing students at the school; they are academically at risk of dropping out. They are faced daily with the struggles of living in one of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in our country. Each day my students enter a classroom that lacks essential supplies and resources. Despite this, they are incredibly resilient, bright, hardworking, and curious. I come excited to work each day because of the immense potential exhibited by my students. The 2015-16 school year will be the second year that the Miami Northwestern girls soccer program will compete at a Varsity level, and student interest has risen greatly. With nearly 90% of the student body eligible for free or reduced lunch, fundraising to maintain and grow our program continues to be a challenge.
