We are a school district that has been hit hard by budget cuts and there are no funds to buy any equipment this year. 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, so asking the parents is not really an option. In addition, due to declining enrollment, our kindergartners have been moved to a new school that does not have the appropriate equipment for them.
Don't get me wrong. We are not doom and gloom around here. Our parents may not be rich, but they care about their children and will volunteer and help out when asked. They want what is best for their kids. Our staff is very dedicated and will go out of their way to make sure the kids get what they need. They spend a lot of their own money each year to make this happen.
The donations of playground equipment will mean that teachers, parents and our parent group can use their money to buy pencils, notebooks and other classroom supplies.
