Last year I was informed by my students that several of them were posting on Snapchat (!) about the book we were reading. One circulating comment: "I am falling IN LOVE with this book!"
I knew something was going right. Then my boisterous group of teenagers started arriving to our room on rainy, grey afternoons and immediately directing and shushing each other so that we could get to reading, NOW!
With this project I hope to build on that momentum. My students are becoming READERS!!! They are hungry for more books! And as they read, they share (and exhaust, every year) markers, post-its, rulers, pens and pencils. They put their thoughts and interpretations and creativity on large-scale paper all around our room. We literally surround ourselves with the world of each book. I referred to my students as voracious readers because they truly are. Please help me feed them! It is my greatest joy and privilege as a teacher.
