My students live in a semi-rural town in Northern California. Most of our students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Our school is a TK-2 that offers a Traditional and a Spanish/English Immersion Program. The main focus in my classroom is to have every student move on to third grade as a fluent reader.
I have two classes. Both of my classes spend half of their day learning Spanish as a foreign language. Their Spanish teacher integrates Spanish instruction with art, math, science, and social studies. During my half of the day, I mainly focus on teaching my second grade students skills for reading and writing.
