Representing mathematical thinking with the strategic use of available tools is an essential component for the mathematics classroom. Our classroom needs the document camera and multimedia cart to provide students the opportunity to present their work to the classroom community.
21st century students demonstrate their mathematics learning in many ways; equipping classrooms to empower students is the challenge. The standards for mathematical practice provide a robust framework for bring mathematics learning to life: students make sense of problems and persevere in solving them; reason abstractly and quantitatively; construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others; model with mathematics; use appropriate tools strategically; attend to precision; look for and make use of structure; look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
To accomplish the goal of developing these mathematical practices in the lives of students, our classroom must be equipped to allow students to make their work and reasoning accessible to the community. The document camera and multimedia cart will enable students to quickly and efficiently share their work with the classroom community, allowing us to go deeper with robust classroom discussion and collaboration.
