There is something about 5th grade. Something special. The students are at a perfect age for creating a lifetime habit of energetic learning, finding their place in the world, and acquiring the
precious knowledge that what they do affects others. After we watched the TED talk video about the child app developer, I looked at their faces and thought "How can I NOT get these students a current, applicable device that they can really truly USE and UTILIZE? ". I asked them what they thought about having tablets or personal computers in school to work on, and they were shocked that it was even a possibility! Their one request was that they be sustainable computers with as little impact on the environment as possible. WOW...I was impressed and inspired. We researched environmental reports, computer manufacturers' sustainability and carbon footprint ratings, as well as customer base driven innovation. Apple iPad Minis are what they selected. The students did such a fantastic job!
