I have a diverse group of 24 students in my fifth grade general education classroom. The majority of my students are from low-income situations. What I find most joyful about my classroom is that the kids represent many cultural backgrounds. I have students from China, Iraq, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. Many of my students' families speak a language other than English in the home. Despite their differences, all students in the school strive for excellence and love learning. I have only spent two days with this new group and I can already tell how curious they are about the world and how eager they are to dive into learning. My school is in an urban district and has little money for resources, especially technology, for the classroom. If you walked into our school, you would be amazed at what the dedicated staff has done with what we have. Every teacher in the building believes that all students will go to college and this belief is evident in everything we do.
