These books will provide students with the opportunity to participate in guided reading lessons, thereby allowing struggling readers to engage with the story during teacher read alouds. Students will participate in classroom discussion to reflect on the story, deepen their comprehension and improve their vocabulary skills.
Each story highlights the difficulties the main characters face, and the kindness and assistance they receive from others to overcome their problem, allowing the readers to empathize and identify ways to overcome certain obstacles in life.
These stories focus on relevant themes such as inclusion, exclusion, and the mean behavior of others, such as bullying.
