My students come from diverse backgrounds. It's an inner city public school and the majority of the students are on free or reduced lunch. Everyone that works at our school is very nurturing to our students and we strive for academic excellence. We provide many opportunities for intervention. Our efforts have been successful. Last year we received a national blue ribbon award and our school performance score went up substantially. I am a fourth grade reading and language arts teacher. My students and I are under a lot of pressure in this grade level because of the high stakes standardized testing. I work really hard to keep the emphasis off of testing and keep the learning meaningful and enjoyable for my students. So far they seem very happy and comfortable learning in my class.
