Welcome to my class! This summer I will be continuing my professional education by attending a workshop on Singapore Math. Our school district has been using Singapore Math for many years, and teachers attend summer refresher workshops to keep up to date on this method of teaching math. The trainers at this workshop use a document camera during training and highly recommend using one to teach Singapore Math.
The effectiveness and benefits of a document camera in the classroom are endless. For math, the ease of demonstrations with manipulatives and the ability to record lessons for review and absent students alone would greatly benefit my students. Singapore math includes using disk trading, place value strips, fraction tiles, clocks, two sided counters, and many more. Having the document camera would help my sanity from having to try to hold the manipulatives for all to see without dropping them or having students crowd around a table. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether I am going to drop everything or if they can see.
After researching the use of document cameras in the classroom, I will use it for more than just math. Many more science experiments will be possible, in language arts we can share our work with ease to enable the students to see exemplary models, and for classroom management.
I greatly appreciate your time in reading this and considering a donation. Educating our future with the best possible resources is invaluable. Thank you!
